Gel Cutter

The customer requested a controls upgrade for a semi-automated machine that was recently installed to help them in cutting large blocks of gelatin into cubes. Their previous system was laborious and was physically demanding on the operators. The new design, although less physically demanding on the operator, was very time consuming. To assist the client in decreasing cycle time CDSL added pneumatic cylinder reed switches, simplified the operator’s workstation to create a fully automated system. These additions reduced the cycle time by 70% and reduced the operators required physical effort. This upgrade also included replacement of the OEM HMI with an HMI that is stacked and supported by the plant maintenance staff. 

Decreasing cycle time and operator workload allowed the plant to achieve their production goals easier without the need of switching operators mid-shift. Replacing the HMI assisted the plant by increasing troubleshooting ease an increased uptime due to plant part standardization.
