CDSL provides installation solutions that allow our customers to tackle the projects that get put on the back burner due to the complexity of the install and the duration of the downtime.
The customer requested a turn-key solution for the controls upgrade of a chilled food processing line. The controls upgrade included replacing the existing controller, motor controls and line safeties. However, the key focus of this project was minimal downtime during the upgrade as the line was in high demand. To accomplish our client’s goal, we decided to utilize the existing control panel to minimize the removal of conduit and wiring. When the design was completed, we worked with a local panel shop to build a replacement subplate. The subplate was delivered to our customer with all new control’s hardware mounted, wired, and tested. The installation contractors only needed to disconnect and remove the old subplate, mount the new subplate and reconnect the existing wiring.
Another important aspect of this upgrade was integrating this line into the overall process control system. To accomplish this, we provided a new PLC program for the line controller and a new server-based HMI from which other process information could be accessed. Finally, data trends were initialized creating a historical record of process conditions while all alarms were logged for maintenance reporting systems.
Efficient installation solutions can make the difference when deciding whether to proceed with a project or not. Frequently, customers tell us about projects they would like to tackle, yet downtime is the limiting factor. Some facilities run hard to keep up with demand, making even the smallest of upgrades difficult. Basing our design strategy on the most efficient installation scenario and employing pre-built hardware solutions along with multi-phased installations we have been able to assist our customers in tackling their limited downtime projects.
