CS - WFI Grain Handling System

Experience

Grain Handling

Challenge

A local family farm was expanding their grain storage system. The new system included the addition of a pit conveyor, a grain leg and two additional storage bins. CDSL proposed implementation of a PLC based control system with a color graphic display terminal to automate the new and existing grain handling equipment. The proposed PLC based control system provides benefits that CDSL has routinely implemented for their industrial clients. The PLC and HMI controls gives the user the ability to initiate transfer sequences with a single button. The system automatically performs a sequential shutdown, clearing the system, once the transfer is complete. The automatic control provides interlocks with downstream equipment and reduces energy consumption by shutting down idle equipment. Automatic control includes operator adjustable run duration and run intervals settings for the bin aeration fans. Manual control for all motors is provided via the HMI. System alarm displays, motor current draw displays and trend are also provided as operational and trouble-shooting aides. Controls include over-current and no-load shutdown. The system provides identification of the grain in each part of the system as a safeguard to ensure grains are not mixed.

Value

This automation provides improved control, reduced wiring costs, greater flexibility, and ease/unattended operation. Ultimately the system allows the user to be more productive.
